History of Outward Bound Kenya
The Outward Bound Trust of Kenya is part of the Outward Bound Global Network, which comprises more than 300 centers worldwide. The International Secretariat is based in Salt Lake City, USA.
The Outward Bound movement originated in Britain during World War II as a program designed to equip young seamen with essential survival qualities—leadership, teamwork, perseverance, and care for others. Today, the movement has expanded globally, with hundreds of schools, base camps, and institutions delivering experiential learning programs.
Outward Bound Kenya was established in 1952 to foster trust and unity among young men of diverse backgrounds. In the years that followed, it evolved into a platform for preparing students to assume leadership roles in an independent Kenya. Over the past five decades, Outward Bound Kenya has broadened its scope to include consultancy training and human resource development, while remaining steadfast in its core mission: empowering the youth.
Our Vision
To be a world-class character development and values-based training institution in Africa.
Our Mission
To provide education, leadership, and character training that develops the physical, mental, and spiritual faculties of people of all races across the world—transforming individuals to achieve their best.
We equip participants with the character, values, willpower, and self-belief needed to live life to the fullest and consistently make the right choices. By empowering individuals, we aim to uplift entire communities through their positive influence.
Our Motto
"To Serve, To Strive, and Not to Yield"
Methodology
Outward Bound employs an experiential learning approach rather than traditional lectures. Participants are challenged to discover what works and what does not through direct experience. The lessons learned are immediate, practical, and enduring. Activities are reinforced through guided discussions and professional insights from experienced facilitators.
Outward Bound Kenya is recognized as a pioneer and global leader in experiential training and consultancy methodology, specializing in personal growth and development through outdoor-based activities that promote lasting learning.
Our Approach
Outward Bound Kenya offers a unique opportunity to reconnect with nature and reawaken your senses through multi-element adventures. These experiences broaden perspectives, build resilience, and reveal untapped potential.
Participants are often challenged beyond their comfort zones, but the journey is filled with learning, laughter, and lasting friendships. Many discover strengths they never knew they had, gain the confidence to rise above personal limitations, and develop a deeper sense of responsibility toward others.
